S/MIME (Secure/Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions)

Is a standard used to encrypt and digitally sign email.Email archives often store private conversations and sensitive document attachments, encryption protects emails from falling into the wrong hands.

Digitally signing assures the recipient that the email came directly from the sender without being tampered on route. To use S/MIME your email client must support it. Known email clients which support S/MIME are: Microsoft Outlook, Thunderbird, Apple Mail, G Suite Enterprise.

Emails are often sent by a Web Server, which could be a sensitive server state notification or triggered by a online form containing personal customer infomation. Below is a demonstration form which triggers this server to relay the form contents using S/MIME email.

The source code used to create this form can be found at: https://github.com/adampnoyce/WebSSL-PHP
